The Controller General of Accounts is the Head of the Departmentalised Accounting Organisation and is the Principal Accounting Authority of the Government of India. He is responsible for administering Article 283 of the Constitution relating to the custody of Consolidated Fund of India. At present, Mr. A.M. Sehgal, ICAS (1966) is holding the post of Controller General of Accounts.
Earlier, Mr. Sehgal held several other important assignments viz. Principal Chief Controller of Accounts, CBEC, CCA (Industry), CCA (Health), CCA (CBDT), Financial Controller (Civil Aviation & Tourism) besides being on deputation as Financial Adviser, Border Security Force and Director (Finance) in Asiad 82 etc. He also worked as Consultant to the Government of Kazakhastan on an IMF assignment.
He was awarded "Asiad Jyoti Medal" by the President of India in recognition of distinguished services rendered by him during Asiad 82.
