Shri K.B.S. Chopra, a 1968 batch Indian Civil Accounts Service Officer, has been appointed Controller General of Accounts in the Ministry of Finance. Prior to his appointment, Shri Chopra was posted as Additional Controller General of Accounts in the Ministry of Finance. He has also worked in various Ministries of the Government of India, such as Principal Chief Controller of Accounts in the Central Board of Direct Taxes, Department of Revenue, Joint Controller General of Accounts in the O/o the Controller General of Accounts, as Chief Controller of Accounts in the Department of Atomic Energy, Mumbai and in the Ministry of Agriculture, New Delhi.
The Controller General of Accounts is entrusted with the task of laying down general principles of government accounting relating to Union and State Governments. The CGA also frames rules relating to all matters connected with the form of accounts and procedures for accounting of receipts and payments. The monthly accounts prepared by the CGA provide timely information to facilitate management of government finances.
